Fear Street Part 2 – 1978: Movie Review

Here it is! Part Two of the Fear Street movie series. I did receive a link to view it prior to its release but all opinions in this review are mine! Again, since this just came out today, I kept this review spoiler-free for this movie and for Part 1.

The Movie

School’s out for summer and the activities at Camp Nightwing are about to begin. But when another Shadysider is possessed with the urge to kill, the fun in the sun becomes a gruesome fight for survival.

Description from IMDb

Available on Netflix, Fear Street Part 2: 1978 picks up where the first one left off. As the title of the movie suggests, this one does jump back in time, revealing more history about the towns of Shadyside and Sunnydale, as well as the witch, Sarah Fier.

Besides the cast from Part 1, this one also stars Gillian Jacobs, Sadie Sink, Brandon Spink, Chiara Aurelia, and Emily Rudd among others.

The Review

This movie hits all the right notes for the classic campgrounds becomes killing grounds movie a la Friday The 13th. There’s sex, there’s drugs, there’s rock and roll, and there’s blood – lot’s of it. This movie continues in the same style of the first with a wicked soundtrack, sassy characters, and an oppressive sense of dread over it all.

Even more fun, you get to learn more about the past of cursed Shadyside and the witch who haunts it, diving deeper into the lore. Apparently the third jumps back to 1666, to the very origins of the witch, Sarah Fier so I am super excited for that.

So this movie shared a lot of similarities to the first, but also stood on its own. The first movie gave off a real neon modern slasher movie vibe, while Fear Street Part 2:1978 is darker, grittier with a more traditional slasher vibe. I think, overall, I liked the first one slightly more just because I really dig the Stranger Things-esque style to it.

Super looking forward to the final installment! If you haven’t watched Part 1, make sure you do! Don’t get left behind!

Have the best weekend, everyone. See you on Monday!
