4 Christmas Horror Films To Set Your Bells A-Jingling (With Fear!)
Who says Christmas is a time for cheer and light? It’s in the dead of winter when the wind howls through the bare, skeletal branches of sleeping trees and the nights are dark as sin. In other words, it’s the perfect time to snuggle up with another victim and watch some terrible and sometimes hilarious horror movies. To get your holiday spirit trembling, I have a list of four movies to watch. Check it:
Krampus (2015)
This movie is about a dysfunctional family who causes the youngest son to lose his Christmas spirit. When this happens, they unwittingly summon Krampus who attacks them with gingerbread men and toys to punish them for their lack of holiday cheer. A strange mix of dark comedic moments with gore and it's just completely ridiculous.
Gremlins (1984)
This is a classic so if you've never watched it then your life is meaningless. To be blunt. This movie stars the loveable Gizmo who (if given access to snacks after midnight or a sprinkle of ill-timed water) will birth an army of malicious monsters ready to murder -- just in time for the holidays.
A Christmas Horror Story (2015)
This anthology features 4 holiday-themed horror stories that all occur in one very unlucky town - including Santa fighting zombie elves, Krampus, a haunted school, and a changeling mishap. The cast even boasts a leading role of none other than William Shatner himself!
Holidays (2015)
Technically this one has short films based on all the holidays, but the Christmas one is pretty cool. It focusses on a dad (played by Seth Green) desperately trying to survive ridiculously horrible situations while trying to get his son the perfect gift. Also, here’s a bonus movie since I love to share:
Frozen (2010)
This one is technically not based on Christmas or any other winter holiday, but I have a fondness for it because of how silly it is. Three friends are skiing and manage to get stuck on a ski lift on the mountainside as a blizzard approaches. Apparently ski patrol has forgotten them and they get left behind as the temperature drops and convenient plot-wolves come out to play.
