Poem: A Pale Shadow of Myself

They told me I was sleeping,

I assured them I was dead.

I'm waiting for the wailing

And for the tears to be shed.

Just because I'm living,

Doesn't mean I'm still here.

Despite everything I told you,

You thought I had nothing to fear.

Echoes in the corridor,

Whispers in my head.

I stand on my shadow,

Waiting to be led.

No one said it would be easy,

No one said it would be fun.

Oh god, how much will it cost,

To once again see the sun?

I dreamt of a demon who knew you,

I heard him say your name.

Once I heard his voice,

I knew it'd never be the same.

Though I am lost in the shadows,

We're still tied by a chain.

Run, run all you like,

I'm sure we'll meet again.
